Lighting

I forgot to post that we finally put in a ceiling fan/light in the old dining room.We haven't had a light in there for about 10 months!!!!! It makes such a difference!!!!! Our house is feeling like a real house!!!!! At least without holes in the walls/ceilings, oh wait we just put more holes in our hallway to the basement but that is another story!!!!! Here are the before and after photos .Also we changed the paint color to a deep chocolate brown .

What we have been up to!!!!

We are back to work!!!! We opened up the wall completely from the dining room to the tin ceiling room.We were going to put up my french doors between the two rooms.Now we are going to put them up in the kitchen!!!! (That is the original place I wanted them!!!!) We had help with putting up the header.It was huge and heavy so I called my daughter and her boyfriend to help.It was a long day of work. Trent and I have been working on moving electric and cleaning up all the mess.Today I am re-mopping and dusting again!!!!!! Dust is everywhere. It can be overwhelming but I have do just clean one room at a time!!! I keep visualizing the finished room to keep me going!!!!!!

Knocking down the wall part 2

This week we finished knocking down the wall completely on one side.It is sooooo messy.I spent the whole week cleaning up the rest of the house from the dust that traveled!!!! This week we will have to clean up the plaster(luckily all I have to do is close a door and not see the mess).It is getting harder to find extra time to do this renovating.We have had a busy month with other commitments and next month we have two weekend trips planned already.Then start the holidays!!!! Two bad this won"t be finished before the holidays!!! I really do not want to rush because all our other projects seemed like we were on a certain time schedule.Here are current photos!!!

Tearing down the wall!!!!!

We have been talking about opening up a wall for a while now!!!!! The room is a small bedroom on the main floor and it is my favorite room of all!!! We put in a tin ceiling the year after we bought the house since there was a hole in the ceiling and we needed to replace it. This is a very major project,vents will have to be moved and water pipes and electric (we just installed this year).We will install my Victorian style french doors and the room will open up to the dining room which has our soapstone wood burning stove.It will open up our main level and visually will make it larger. I am very excited and nervous at the same time!!!!! Today I was talking with hubby about not putting the doors it just seemed impossible with all the things that have become obstacles.I told him I felt depressed about it.Then he came down a few minutes later and told me he had something to cheer me!!!!
I heard banging and saw that he started tearing out the wall for my doors!!!!! It was a blast since my younger boys started to help!!!!

Clean Up!!!!

We finished most of the electric the last three days.Tin ceiling room is complete!!!!! That room originally had only one outlet now it has three!!!! Also the light fixture was not properly mounted and now is secure!!!!! When we bought the house this room had a hole in the ceiling and was the room that I thought needed the most work but now it is my favorite!!!!! We installed the tin ceiling about 3 years ago and I LOVE my ceiling!!! The dining room which is the next room over has a new light switch,and 5 new outlets !!!!! This room originally had two outlets but only one was functioning!!!! The hole in the ceiling is still there !!!! We ran out of time to put in a light fixture,also we have to buy a new ceiling fan. I decided to put my vintage chandelier in the living room instead of the dining room.We rewired half of the kitchen and pulled wire through the living room but didn't finish.Trent has to go back to work today so we will pick up where we left off next week end.Today I will be cleaning up the plaster dust, wire ,tools and trying to get back to a functioning household!!!
