Rearranging

Yesterday hubby had the idea to turn the dining room table to the center of the dining room/study and the parlor room. So we rearranged and so far I love it!!!!! Since we keep our computer on the table I am liking seeing the wood burning stove from this angle !!!! It opened up the space. I also can now enjoy my victorian leopard sofa that I had on the other side of the table. I was trying to hide it from our big dog(Scruffy) but instead I didn't get to enjoy it and he still snuck up on it.I have it covered in a million pillows and throws so I know when he sneaks on,lol!!!! I took some photos to show you the change...

It is giving us more room since it was hard to walk around the table before and the parlor room basically was just wasted space if the kids weren't using their desks. I left their vintage desks so we still do school in both of these combined spaces.

Big reveal

So we broke open the wall last October. It is 95 % complete. We still have to install my two chandeliers and close in a small section of the tin ceiling. This room started out as a bedroom . Since my older two kids moved out the two younger boys took over the bedroom in the basement because it is huge.So this was a guest room/ dumping room for extra crap!!!!! We really didn't use our dining room, since we installed the wood burning stove we had to move the dining room table against the wall. So we combined the two rooms into one big room. The old bedroom became the new dining room/study. The old dining room is our new sitting room.So basically a new "great room". We are really using our main level now !!!! I painted the two rooms a dark chocolate brown.I wanted the ceiling in the study /dining room to pop.The tin ceiling looks great in there with the dark walls .Also I kept the sky blue ceiling in the old dining room. The molding is painted white. So here are before and after photos.

Dressing table

I found a cool dressing table similar to one I have.I wanted one to use as my "color station".I have some clients that I color their hair and I wanted a cool place to do that.I have been envisioning finding a similar dressing table to the one in my dressing room. This one I would be painting so I wasn't looking to pay a lot for it. I finally found one on Craig's list and it needed some work but was exactly what I wanted!!!!! So hubby and I drove one hour and a half to pick it up.It had some missing knobs and was just plain wood.It is a little smaller than mine and less ornate but I love it!!!! So after bringing it home and painting it a "raspberry pink" and changing the knobs it is ready to be displayed!!!! Also a sneek peek into the room where we opened up the wall.

Birthday party

This weekend we had a birthday party for my baby Julian (whose birthday is really in Jan) and my daughter Paloma who had a birthday this week. Since we were in the middle of the dining room renovation and just about finished we had the party. We still have to finish a few projects but the room is functioning.I have been waiting to post the final photos until we finish completely. We have lighting to hang and the tin ceiling has a few pieces to rehang. I love the room!!!! It has made our house feel larger.I also am finishing painting the crown molding . Hopefully we can finish things this weekend!!!!!

Wood floor

Still working on the finishing details.Yesterday hubby and I worked on filling in the floor(where the old wall was and was just a hole in the floor) with new hardwood floor. It was a scary project for us because it involved the dreaded table saw!!!!!!! Luckily it went smoothly and we were able to fill the old hole w/ new hardwood floor. It looks great .We will need to refinish the floor some time in spring. At least I know the kids won't fall thru the hole into the basement!!!!

Almost done!!!!

Our new dining room /study is almost complete!!!!! We spent Valentines day mudding and sanding and then yesterday I painted the room.I ran out of paint so I have to go buy another gallon also I need to paint the trim.It is so nice to see the room looking clean and functional again!!!! I am mopping and re-mopping the dust.We still need to buy wood floorboards for the hole in the floor (where the old wall was). For now we just have a huge plywood board down so no one will fall thru!!! I will post photos after I complete the last touchups!!!!
