Summer projects!!!!

This summer has flown by!!! Most of our summer was depressing.The weather was cold and it rained a lot in June.July was cooler too but warmed up at the end of the month and August was hot although today is chilly. I mostly painted the house.I painted the living room (same color green) but added a gold chevron pattern decal to one wall.It did not come out perfect but its ok because it is removable.I also painted the kitchen.We worked on the pantry wall one weekend.We installed the barn door track for the parlor doors that are now pantry doors.I did repaint them as well( added layers of pink) we had to add wood to them to make them longer ,so I had to paint the bottoms to match. I absolutely love the doors so much!!!! The pantry is my favorite area of the kitchen.I love adding decorative touches and rearranging all my containers.This weekend we made an awning for the outside area of the pantry since it has an exterior door.It really makes a difference .The last thing I have to do is paint the outside and inside of the exterior pantry door and that project is officially done. Projects!!!!

Our house has been quiet on the project list lately but that is about to change!!! Since we have finished the pantry ,I have been on the lookout for a special door.In my original vision I wanted an old rustic door hung on a barn door track. I searched Craigslist occasionlly and finally found a door I really liked.It was located by a town not far from where Paloma lives.I emailed the owner but never heard back.I fell in love with that door and especially the price(it was $40).Fast forward to last weekend,we went to a flea market that Paloma has been wanting us to go to by her house. I specifically wanted to find a door for the pantry and really didn't want to spend over $40 since I had found one for that price before. When going to a flea market you never know what to expect.One man's junk is another man's treasure,lol!!! At first I didn't see any doors and almost gave up hope.My husband said we would probably find some good stuff torward the back in an out of the way section and he was so right!!! I saw a pale pink door that caught my eye!!!At first I thought it was too narrow for the door but there were two narrow doors that almost matched. Originally these doors were parlor doors but the lady had painted one door pink and added chicken wire to a window that had broke.The other door was striped of its original paint but had both the frosted windows in tact. She was selling the pink door for $55 and the other one $45 but since I wanted both doors she would sell them to us for $50.So I bought the set for $50. I was happy ,since these doors are narrow we will be putting two doors in the pantry. I am always impressed at how the universe provides and brings to me things that are better than I have envisioned!!!!For mother's Day we will put up the doors!! I am super excited to have the final jewel to the pantry.I have decided I am going to add a little trim to the pink door around the chicken wire and leave the other door raw. Door Handles

We have been so busy lately with work and haven't had time to do much of anything around the house.WE did finally put on the door handles on the French doors!!!!! I found these at hobby lobby on one of the 50% off days!!!!!! Yeah!!!!! I faux painted them in a vintage verdigris look and sanded them to look aged. I really love them!!!! No more sticky finger prints on the doors!!!!! We still need to add some wheels on the doors to stabilize them. Hopefully soon!!!!!

Project list for 2010

 

I am looking back thru the blog and realized we accomplished a lot!!!! Of course there are still projects to do but that is for 2011!!!!! The biggest project we did was opening up the wall from the original dining room into a small bedroom. This was really time consuming and messy!!! We love how it turned out!!!! Another mini project was adding  wood to the floor where the original wall was .That was a first for us!!!!

 

  In the basement we had a see  thru staircase so we added wood to the steps.That helped with the laundry not falling thru!!!!! It"s the little things that make me happy!!!!! We also went to Hawaii!!!!When we returned it was back to business!!!!    We installed our light and new electric in the old dining room(it had been a hole up there for a while.In July we started the painting of our house. Added shutters!!!!(we are not done painting outside)WE made awesome  bunk beds(still working on boys room) I finished painting my lockers.( a two year project!!!!) And the final big project of the year was installing the barn door track and putting up the Victorian french doors that were on the front enclosed porch for two years!!!! This one was really special to me!!!!! Also a first for us ,it was really scary and a little more complicated than we thought. It has been a great year!!!!! We are looking forward to 2011 !!!!! I know we will have a greater year next year greater than we could ever have imagined!!!! Happy New year!!!!!!!! I am linked to this party!!!top-projects-2010

Sneak Peek

We  put up  the doors!!!!! I am so happy !!!!!! We still have to do some finishing touches, but they are up!!!!! Here are some photos. I have to paint the doors,clean the glass,fill in some holes in the wall and it will look great!!!

Progress

Our progress is slow.We ran into a few problems with installing the barn door track. We figured out how to install this thing but needed wood to attach it to .I convinced my hubby to "look" at Lowes for wood and we ended up buying it there. We loaded the minivan and had 12' of wood in the van,since it was a bitter cold day we didn't want to leave  the back trunk open ,so when we closed our back trunk door  and one of the pieces of wood cracked my windshield. I should have taken this as a sign!!!! I wasn't upset (hubby was) but will have to replace the windshield. I just look a little ghetto driving my van until we replace it. Oh well. So we finally get this thing put together and are ready to install.I call my daughter to come over and help us lift it up on the wall.She brings her boyfriend  to help. I was so excited ...... until we all lift the track and it is too long for the wall!!!!!!! I couldn't believe it!!!!! Both my husband and I were in shock!!!! It was almost 6 inches to long!!!!! WE both measured together ,I don't know what happened. I think Trent thinks I was bending the tape measure, not sure how that happened. So that is where we are at!!!!! We have to wait until this weekend to cut off the extra and try again. On the bright side,I  was  able to paint the wood that the track is attached to the same color as the wall. If it was installed first it would have been a pain to paint.

French Doors

I have a fabulous pair of french doors that we bought two and a half years ago!!!! We are finally installing them!!!! We are putting them up on barn door tracks. I have had the"vision" in my mind for so long, I am excited to finally have them installed.Today we moved an outlet to a different wall and lets just say nothing in our  100 + year house  goes easy!!!!! It took a lot longer than we expected.We moved the outlet where our refrigerator was plugged in to the adjoining wall . The original outlet would be in the way for the french doors. We still have one more outlet to change but we hope that one will go smoother,LOL!!!! Also we bought the flat track and now need to buy some wood to install it. So tomorrow we are off to Menards again. Today I also painted part of the wall behind the refrigerator. I couldn't move the refrigerator by my self when I originally painted the room so I am happy it is now done. Stay tuned for photos tomorrow of our progress!!!!
