Prom and Toronto Canada

This weekend my husband and I are going to Toronto Canada. It is work related for him and I get to tag along!!! My dad is staying with the kids while we are gone.Anyway,my daughter was asked to prom(last minute by her boyfriend) so we have been running around to get her things ready. We really lucked out on her dress. She found it at the first store on our shopping trip.My husband, daughter and I were all like That is the one. I feel sad that I won't be able to see her before the dance but our trip was planned before we found out about the prom.So yesterday, my oldest son tells us that a girl(the one he likes) asked him to her prom next week.So when I get back it will be a repeat of this weeks shopping frenzy, last minute of course!!!!!

A little bit of bling!!!

Well,we had round 2 of the flu and finally we are all better!!!! I have been focusing on the finishing details in the dining room.We are LOVING the blue color on the walls.I really thought I would miss the red but I like the flow from each room with the "blue room" in the middle. So,I wrote about putting in the vintage chalkboard in the dining room.I thought it needed more "bling" ,I added my fabulous French style clock and one of my favorite lamps. It reminds me of a chandelier( It has vintage glass feel). My hubby installed my new curtain rods!!!!To me that was my favorite detail in the room.here is a preview! Enjoy!!!!

Construction and the flu

Well, this weekend was chaotic as usual!!! Our life is always full of surprises!!!! We are in the middle of re-mudding a corner of the kitchen that came out funky since we were rushing to finish before our appraisal . This time we used fast drying mud and it does thicken/harden fast!!!!! My hubby fixed the corner and just has to sand a little more. The dreaded dust!!!! ( I put up plastic to prevent the dust from going everywhere) In the middle of doing the work my youngest gets the stomach flu.He is such a trooper!!!! We were like oh no,trying to seperate kids to prevent our house from the dreaded flu.My two youngest sleep in the same room,so we had one sleep downstairs, one in the upstairs room but unfortunately it didn't work!!! Now the 10 yr. old is sick.So today besides cleaning dust I will try to disinfect my house from germs. Here are pictures of the corner we re-mudded and now I have to re-paint!!!!!

A few more photos

What do you think??? I tried to select photos of everyday action and a few special occasions.

Current project

I have been thinking for some time that I would love to put sepia photos of the kids and pets (a few of hubby and me too) on the wall going up the stairs. I have seen inspiration photos from Pottery Barn. So,today the kids and I tried to find pictures that would look good enlarged.I am going to put the photos we saved on a disc and take them to Walmart to enlarge on the photo machine.I will then buy simple black frames (some with white matting)and put it all together. I am excited to see how this turns out. Here is a small preview of some of the pictures.

A lot of drama

A good friend gave me this vintage chalkboard,it came from her son's preschool.I had admired it at her house and one day she said she was getting ready to move and remembered that I really like the chalkboard. So she gave it to us.Now this thing is very very heavy!!!! At first my hubby wasn't sure about mounting it on a wall. I whined and pleaded so he gave in.I had it in the kitchen before and it was really great there.Since we removed part of the wall,I wasn't sure that it looked good in there anymore.I decided to bring it into the dining room. This room is under a makeover. It was a red color before(which I LOVED) but I needed a change so it is now a very peaceful blue.Well, the red chalkboard didn't look quite right so I painted it a dark gray color.I wanted to preserve the vintage feel so I sanded off some paint and let a little of the red come through and then sanded it more to really look worn at the edges.Well,we had so much trouble finding studs in the wall to mount this thing!!!! My husband made so many holes in the wall and I was freaking out about them. Then my son and I had to hold this up while Trent drilled the screws through the wall.It was one of those stressful moments. This chalkboard is over 100 lbs. so it really needs to be secure. Now all this room needs to be complete are my new curtain rods and tile installed in back of the wood burning stove!!!!!
