So Happy!!!!

Yesterday I was determined to find my living room paint!!! I had looked all over the house last week for it and even went into the garage and it was not there. The living room desperately needed touch ups!!!! Since we are having the baby shower here at the house all the things I haven't done such as touch ups are now a priority. I was so happy to finally find the gallon in the basement( I asked my angels to help me find it). It was in a spot I hadn't looked and for some reason(wink)

I looked in a corner and there it was!!!! I touched up the living room and now I am going to do the kitchen and dining room today. Last weekend we started putting up the tin ceiling in a spot that we took it down to change out the plumbing in the bathroom above. It has been down for over a year!!! I will be so happy when the ceiling is finally put back up.We had to buy a new suspended ceiling attachment and I was so happy we only spent around $6 for two pieces and I had to buy silver spray paint since it only comes in white. So the ceiling project was under $15. Here are photos of the start of putting up the missing tin ceiling toes. This is my favorite renovation project we have done to this house. I always loved the tin ceiling in old houses and stores and it was a dream come true to have a real tin ceiling in our house!!!!

Front porch

I am very slowly painting my front porch. This area has been an eyesore for a few years now!!!!! We store our firewood in the winter here and any furniture I am redoing and working on. I gave our daughter our old bed (which was on the porch) so now that it is gone I can really finish this project!!! My plan is to paint the ceiling, walls and trim and then I will order my porch swing that I have wanted since we bought this house 7 years ago. Also I will paint the floor and buy a cute outside rug . Well, that is the plan...... I do have some anthropology -ish accessories waiting to show you . That is my inspiration for this make over!!!!!

photos of bathroom

Finally!!!! I couldn't upload the photos and was really frustrated but now it is done, yeah!!!!!!  Here are photos of the bathroom (main) during the "sink project". We LOVE the sink and the dark teal paint color!!!! So far there hasn't been a problem with finger prints on the mirrored part. That was everyone's concern knowing we have kids. Although I now keep windex in the room to shine it up!!!!

Hardware photo

I was so happy yesterday I went to pick up my handles for the french doors and they were 50% off!!!! I love when that happens!!! I started painting the handles for  an antique verdigris look. They were originally a wrought iron dark brown color. Here is a look. Also I sanded off some paint and added a little bit of gold.

House painting

We are finally painting the outside of our house again. The weather has been a bit cool here but we need to get this done!!!!! The front of the house is complete with a few touch ups to go and the same with one side of the house. I will paint the trim later today. It looks soooooo much better.I love it!!!!! I am hoping next week we can buy shutters for the front of the house and put them up.That will take our house to a different level as far as curb appeal goes.We are already getting compliments on the outside. Finally our house matches inside and out!!!!

Fun Chandelier

My good friend Dawn gave me a really cool chandelier !!! She bought it at a yard sale and had it in her home but she is moving so she gave it to us!!!! I love when I get new treasures.Dawn had it in her hallway when you walk into the house and I thought I would put it their too. That is one of the few spots that hasn't been rewired with new electric so it might be a while before we can hang it.This weekend rained here so we didn't paint the house outside and I am feeling anxious about that project now. I did buy paint for kids bunk beds and I am going to start painting it.The boys room is almost complete.I need to paint one more wall and then just find them new bedding. Here are the chandelier photos

Power wash

We finally made the decision to paint the house instead of adding siding. So off we went to rent a power washer. We rented it for 4 hours and all I can say was that thing really works!!!!!! Our younger boys where gone for a few days with their grandpa so it was just Trent ,myself and our oldest son here doing the work.We rented the more powerful power washer that takes off any loose paint.Lets just say in some spots we will have to replace some wood trim because of how hard that water hit our house. It was a messy job!!!!!! After we returned the power washer we went to Menard's to buy paint. At least we had already picked out our paint color in advance. It is Burgundy Red by Dutch Boy. While waiting for our house to dry we had to prune a rosebush in the front of our house so there would be room to paint. I love roses but this one didn't do it for me!!!! It was ugly so I hope it doesn't grow back.We will have to dig out the roots eventually.Back to painting, we finally started painting and it is looking great!!!!! The darker red has made our house look bigger!!! It seems weird because I thought white made things appear larger. Anyway,I am hoping we can finish painting this week or weekend (we are ambitious like that!!!).Then we have to decide on the paint color for the trim. I will post photos later today ,they are on my laptop.Pray it doesn't rain here in Wisconsin!!!!!!!

Basement stairs part two

I wrote about painting the basement stairs. After they were painted I asked my hubby to enclose our stairs as you could see thru them (you basically saw the ugly brick wall behind them) . Also the stairwell was very cold.I was trying to see if we enclosed them it would solve the draft problem. We did half of them and I really like the look . I don't have a before photo but will take one and show the open steps that are left so you can see the difference. The steps are narrow so you need to get used to stepping properly but I really love the difference. I also finished painting the crown molding in our old dining room turned sitting room. I love the crisp white next to the dark walls!!!!!! I will post the photos later today!!!!

Redesign

I purchased the armoire I talked about in my last post!!!! YEAH!!!! I painted it pink.I love it!!!! I added a few decorative wood scrolls and I need to paint that part so I will take photos tomorrow.I also changed the knobs to glass knobs that look vintage.I can't believe what a few minor changes can do !!! The piece really looks more like my style!!!!! Also I FEEL more organized!! I am finding clothes that I forgot about because I never saw them in my actual closet.I will post the photos soon.Have a great night!!!

New again!!!

I wrote a post in Jan. about getting a new table for xmas.I absolutely love my table.Well,in our house it is hard keeping things looking new for long!!!! The table got some scratches ,which is ok but then disaster happened. My husband took off a plug in from the outlet and left it on the table. The scented oil leaked and ate away part of the finish.I was so upset because it was a present and I was having a bad day.I basically whined about it for a while and then the kids gave different ideas to fix it.My boys said I should paint it.I was thinking I would refinish it, but I ended up painting it black and adding 4 layers of shellac to protect it.Here are some pictures of the ordeal and the finished table.

Construction and the flu

Well, this weekend was chaotic as usual!!! Our life is always full of surprises!!!! We are in the middle of re-mudding a corner of the kitchen that came out funky since we were rushing to finish before our appraisal . This time we used fast drying mud and it does thicken/harden fast!!!!! My hubby fixed the corner and just has to sand a little more. The dreaded dust!!!! ( I put up plastic to prevent the dust from going everywhere) In the middle of doing the work my youngest gets the stomach flu.He is such a trooper!!!! We were like oh no,trying to seperate kids to prevent our house from the dreaded flu.My two youngest sleep in the same room,so we had one sleep downstairs, one in the upstairs room but unfortunately it didn't work!!! Now the 10 yr. old is sick.So today besides cleaning dust I will try to disinfect my house from germs. Here are pictures of the corner we re-mudded and now I have to re-paint!!!!!
